OUR VISIT TO THE MINING MUSEUM PETROSANI
New images from our visit to the Mining Museum from Petrosani.
We were impressed about the miners work and risks. We thaught that our parents are working in such difficult conditions. The exploitation of the coal mines began here, in Jiu's Valley, in 1890 and it was a source of earning for those who came from other regions of our country. Part of the mines have been closed down, in the last 15 years. It is a job very hard and dangerous, but is the best paid job here in Petrosani.
We would not like to become miners because there were lots of accidents in the last 10 years.
We are not allowed to visit a mine.
Here, in Petrosani, most of the people are working as miners or in agriculture. The last ones are shepperds, so we have plenty of fresh milk and cheese.
The crisis isn't, yet, a real problem for us, because those who don't find a job, can work in agriculture for the peasants named "momarlani". This word can't be translated. These peasants are living here for more than 2000 years, and they are wealthy farmers. They own cows, sheeps, horses and big parts of the mountains surface. You can see a family of wallachian sheperds, named momarlani, below. Most part of the land, here, in Petrosani, is owned by these ancient shepperds.
